The beach community that has it all

About Coronado

Coronado is one of the best beach communities along the Pacific Ocean. It was recently named one of the top 10 best cities for expats in the world. Only an hour from Panama City, it has been a getaway for Panamanians for generations. For many years, the expatriate community has been flourishing here since it caters for most First World needs. Those living here can still enjoy many—if not all—of the conveniences of life back home. There is a country club with a golf course, several full-scale supermarkets, malls, numerous restaurants, and a hospital.

Coronado Neighborhood Guide

Coronado is well known for its beautiful volcanic sand beaches, golf courses, and laid-back lifestyle. It’s perfect for those who enjoy beach activities and the outdoors. The community has a mix of permanent residents, expatriates, and weekenders, creating a diverse and welcoming atmosphere. While Coronado maintains its coastal charm, it also provides modern amenities. This blend of convenience and natural beauty is one of the reasons many people are drawn to the area. Apart from beach-related activities, Coronado offers opportunities for golfing, horseback riding, fishing, boating, and hiking.

Safety

Panama, including the Coronado area, is considered safe for tourists and residents. With 24/7 security and checkpoints, residents feel at ease and leave their front gates open. The US Department of State gives Panama a low crime rating.

Public Transportation & Walkability

The town of Coronado is one of the first beach communities from Panama City, it is only 1-hour away by car. There are also regular bus routes leaving from the terminal in Albrook. If you do not have a car, there are plenty of taxis available to take you to all the different shopping centers and around the community. They are reliable and cheap, and the drivers are helpful and friendly. As Coronado is a large town, we don’t recommend walking. It is best to use a bike or ATV.

Shopping & Groceries

Coronado has several shopping centers, where you can buy everything you need. There are many large supermarket chains, convenience stores, boutiques and much more. We recommend Riba Smith, the best supermarket chain in Panama, where you will be able to find premium cut meats, fresh produce, deli counter, and international foods. They recently opened a larger branch to accommodate the growing demand of the area. Head over to Felipe Motta where you will find a variety of fine liquors, wines, beers, charcuterie, a variety of breads and deli foods, among other delicious treats.

Healthcare

Inside Coronado is the San Fernando Hospital & Clinic. It’s the first private hospital built in the beach areas with a clinic and a team of doctors that can assist you in both Spanish and English. They offer premier medical services, including radiology, clinical laboratory, specialist consultations, electrocardiogram, emergency room, and pharmacy.

  • – Picasso Restaurant & Bar: A favorite among the community, here you will find delicious health-conscious food, the best being their wood-burn pizzas. They host a series of weekly events, including meet-n-greet happy hours and live music on Saturdays.
  •
  • – Terrazas de Coronado: This large shopping center has several boutiques, restaurants, a movie theater, a Starbucks, and a Farmacia Arrocha (the largest chain of pharmacies in Panama).
  •
