Public Transportation & Walkability

Walking down the cobblestone streets in Casco Viejo will transport you to a classic, more romantic time.

Only two bus routes pass through the area, as this zone is highly walkable. Street parking can be tricky, so consider a listing with a parking space if you want to forego the headache. Wherever you are, taxis roam the streets, ready to take you wherever you want.

Shopping & Groceries

The Casco Viejo is a hot spot for boutiques and galleries on nearly every street. It’s easy to find clothing, jewelry, local art, and souvenirs wherever your path takes you. 

The Corredor Artesanal De Casco Antiguo is a beautiful street market along the ocean popular with tourists where you can shop everything from Panama hats to locally designed products, including the traditional Mola.

The San Felipe Neri Public Market is ideal to shop for local produce such as fresh meats, fruits, and vegetables. 

In the Seafood Market, you will find the best fish and seafood in the city, and at the most affordable prices. It is a typical Panamanian place frequented by locals. There are also large supermarket chains, such as El Rey and El Machetazo (near the Plaza Santa Ana), where you can purchase all your groceries, baked goods, clothes, and more.

Healthcare

While Casco Viejo is a hotspot for culture, it isn’t far from access to world-class healthcare and hospitals. 

As long as there’s light traffic, you can get to The Pacifica Salud – Hospital Punta Pacifica or Hospital Paitilla in Punta Paitilla in a 15-minute car ride.

Healthcare in Panama is nearly free due to the Social Security System and the Ministry of Health. Still, if you prefer private or international insurance, you can choose major providers, including Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and more.
