Boquete is located in the province of Chiriqui, about a 45-minute flight from Panama City. The district of Boquete has a population of approximately 22,000 inhabitants. Recently, it has become home to many North American and European retirees. Boquete is located in Chiriqui, which is the most southwestern province of the Panamanian territory. Visitors can arrive by a 45-minute flight or a 7-hour drive west from the capital. In the town there are plenty of taxis available which are cheap and reliable with helpful and friendly drivers. The town itself is relatively small and pedestrian-friendly. You can explore the main streets of Downtown Boquete and its parks, restaurants, and shops on foot. Boquete is also famous for its hiking trails. While these trails are not located in the town center, they offer excellent opportunities for walking and hiking in the surrounding mountains and forests.

When it comes to shopping and groceries in Boquete, you will find several options that meet your daily needs. There are a few supermarkets in which you can find a wide range of groceries, including fresh produce, dairy products, canned goods, and household items. The best being Romero, a well-known supermarket chain from Chiriqui. Boquete is also known for its local markets where you will be able to purchase fresh locally grown produce and artisanal products, among them coffee, chocolate, and strawberries. Don’t miss out on the BCP Tuesday Market. It was created by a group of expatriate theater volunteers to promote local vendors that sell a wide variety of products.

In the town of Boquete you can find the Boquete Medical Associates. It is composed of a group of healthcare providers (physicians, nutritionists, and more) that bring medical assistance and procedures to solve most issues. They provide services like preop evaluation, internal medicine, heart care (EKG, HOLTER), and much more. The best private hospital in the area is located in David, the capital of Chiriqui, which is only a 30-minute drive from Boquete. This is the Centro Medico Mae Lewis, that provides a wide range of services in the areas of Laboratory, Pharmacy, Emergencies, Operating Room, Imaging, among others.

It is estimated that around 14% of the population of Boquete is of foreign origin. There are over 3,000 foreigners permanently living in Boquete, from over 30 different countries. Although Americans and Canadians comprise the majority of the foreign community, there is also a large group of immigrants from European countries. This increase in immigrants has stimulated the growth of new industries and businesses. Many of these immigrant families have been in Boquete since it was founded in 1911.
